Hard day. There was a burial service for a widow in the village who died of AIDS today. We went....along with the rest of the village. a few hundred. Apparently they are really common....for kids, too.
Internet is slower than slow so pictures might not happen, but the kids are enthralled with the toys we brought. I wish you guys could see what a can of bubbles does to these kids.
We are still adjusting to life here....slow paced. Somehow Sarah and Jenny got over jet lag right away....but I'm still on California time, so its a little interesting!
ahh have to go. more later...i hope. love you guys.

This is less a response to your blog, and more of an email to the three of you, as I figure you'll check this more often than facebook. I'm so glad to see that you all made it safely to Uganda (and that Kate didn't get lost running around in Kennedy.) I miss you all terribly, and am so thrilled that you're doing great things for God. Keep up the amazing-ness. So much to tell you about my summer, but I feel it's pretty inconsequential in comparison to what you guys are going through, so I guess I'll save my stories for later.
Peace,
Rachel
P.S. I watched part of the Miss Universe pageant (gag me) last night, and when Ukraine was on the screen, I started singing "Start Wearing Purple" and all my friends looked at me like I was crazy.

So Kate-does that mean you're sleeping during the day and awake at night? Usually takes me a good 5 or 6 days to not be wide awake at 4am!

Hey Jenny (and the rest of you, though I'm not sure I've met you yet!)
SO excited to hear that you guys are there and working, and really experiencing all this for youselves. Keep your heads up and always remember that even if at times it doesn't feel like it, you ARE making a HUGE difference to those kids, just by being there, and they will benefit from your visit for years to come! I've been thinking of you, you make me so proud! Have you sang the hippopotomus song to the kids yet? I bet they'd enjoy it, regardless of whether or not they can understand the words! Big hugs to you!
